I was stressed out today and hungry after lunch, so I sat here at my computer and pigged out on Kashi Honey Sunshine cereal. That stuff tastes just like Cap'n Crunch, except it's allegedly healthier. I dunno, is "organic evaporated cane juice" really any better than "high fructose corn syrup"? When I eat too many pure carbs, I feel the sugar rushing thru my veins….ACK. I better go do a really hard workout now.

That reminds me of something I've learned over the years. Don't let yourself get too hungry. I was really busy today and did not eat between 8 am and 2pm, so was famished by the time I was able to eat lunch. I ate a good lunch, but was still really hungry after. That's what set off this pigout.

I ate another piece of halloween candy today. One piece does not kill a diet, so as long as you can resist pigging out, it's okay. It helps to make a mental agreement with yourself before you eat that one piece, that it WILL only be ONE. I chose a Nestle crunch bar. It tasted okay…just barely worth 60 calories. Huh, just thought of something. Since I put so much thought into that one piece of candy, I am probably expecting too much of it. I expect it to be the most delicious thing I eat today. Maybe this is a good strategy!

I bought my Halloween candy this morning. As I wrote the other day, I always wait till the last minute so bags of candy aren't sitting around tempting me for weeks!

I just now dumped them into a big bowl. I got almond joy, milky way, nestle crunch, and baby ruth. I decided I would allow myself to eat one. Just one. That is the agreement I made with myself.

I chose Almond Joy. I ate it, but ya know, it really wasn't all that great tasting. Then I went to add it to my calories for the day. It cost me 80 calories. Not really worth it. I think I'd rather have had a cup of hot cocoa or some mandarin oranges.

Anyway, good luck to all in resisting. Keep plugging away at the journey. It does get easier with each passing year. I'm on year five.

The trick is to accept that the journey never ends. It will always be a struggle. I always want to eat more than I need to.

I remember when I first started my weight loss journey back in 2002. I was using the slimfast plan: slimfast for breakfast and lunch, a couple small healthy snacks like fruit or string cheese, and a normal dinner, paying attnetion to serving sizes. The lid to the slimfast can said to try out their website. I signed up there and they had a weigh in tool, that also sent an emial reminder to weigh in every week. That really worked for me. I'd get that email, and remember I had to weigh in. Some weeks I was really bad and knew I gained weight. So,, I'd skip that weigh in and then be extra super dooper good the following week so my weigh in would be less.

The accountability of that weekly weigh-in really helped me stay on course. Spark people didn't exist back then. You can get that with this site! So….remember to weigh in, okay!?

Here are some tips for surviving Halloween: buy candy for the trick-or-treaters that you DON'T LIKE. Do not buy anything that you do like. For me, that means NO CHOCOLATE Oh, and buy it the same day as trick-or-treat! I used to buy three bags of snickers as soon as they sold them in stores. Then I'd eat them. Then I'd go buy more. Then I'd eat those. By the time Halloween actually rolled around, I'd have eaten 9 bags of snickers. UGH!

The harder part is if you have kids who bring home bags of candy and leave them lying around. You can ask them to hide thier candy from you. Last year, I found myself tempted by all those snickers and 3 musketeers bars. Instead, I took a Nestles crunch bar. Those are good, but not so good that I keep wanting more and more and more.

And remember…

Also, be sure to log anything you eat…that helps too.

It's easier to say no to the first candy, then the 2nd, 3rd, 4th…etc.

Nothing tastes as good as being in control feels.

Remember, the journey is for life.

If you do cave and pig out, then forgive yourself and get back to it. I like to have just whey protein mixed with water for breakfast and lunch the day after a sugar pig out. That, plus 60 minutes of cardio helps me get back to my 'thinner place'.

CNN

Sometimes I read the weight loss stories on CNN’s website. Here’s a really good one:

Tracey Wygal weighed 295 pounds before starting a “clean diet,” keeping a food journal and exercising.

Hardly a day that goes by that you won’t find Tracey

I finally stepped on the scale today after avoiding it for several months. The good news is that I did not gain weight over the holidays. The bad news is that I am still just shy of 150 lbs. I weigh 148 lbs. I'd really like to be 140.

Have you ever experienced a fat loss "plateau" where you were losing fat just fine for a while, but then your progress suddenly stopped for NO apparent reason?

Have you ever lost lot of bodyfat successfully, but then it seemed almost impossible to get rid of the last 10-15 pounds?
