The Cancun Diet

My husband and I went to Cancun for 5 days to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We were originally booked at the all-inclusive Xpu Ha Palace in Playa de Carmen. Hurricane Emily damaged that resort, so we had to scramble to find a new hotel at the last minute. We stayed at the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Beach, which as not all-inclusive. It was a wonderful hotel with a huge meandering pool and a beautiful turquoise blue beachfront. We had a very relaxing and fun vacation.

Food was so expensive, tho, that we ended up skipping meals to stay within our budget. We did eat out at nice restaurants every night...the bill was always at least $75. We skipped breakfast, as we didn't feel it was worth $25 per person! We just grabbed a bag of peanuts from the convenient store across the street for lunch most days. We splurged on one tropical drink at the pool bar per day (they were $9 for one drink!). We didn't get anything from the room mini-bar, as it was all such a rip-off.

I'm calling this the Cancun Diet. A guaranteed way to not gain weight while vacationing! If I had gone to the all-inclusive place, I would have gained 5 pounds on pina colodas alone!
