Partially Hydrogenated Oils / Trans Fat
Beware of partially hydrogenated oils, aka Trans Fat, which is found in many packaged foods. Companies use it because it has such a long shelf life and stays solid at room temperate.
What is it? Partially hydrogenated oils are vegetable oils whose molecules have been chemically altered to be "partyially saturated with hydrogen atoms", and then look like a saturated fat molecule. They are worse for you than saturated fat because they can substantially lower good cholestorol and increase bad cholesterol!
So, if you see partially hydrogenated soybean oil in the ingeredients of your favorite snack - don't buy it!
