Food for Thought: one day of rest from exercise per week is good practiceIn my triathlon workout plan, I am required to take one day of rest from workint out per week. That means no exercise that day, so I don't get to eat as much! On days I exercise, I take my BMR* of 1200-1400 calories and figure out how many calories I burned working out and add that the BMR. Often, I get to eat 2000+ calories. So on days where I don't work out, I only eat 1200-1400 calories. It's a lot harder on those days.It just dawned on me recently that this is good practice for the time when some illness or injury means I have to give up exercise (hopefully just temporarily). In the event that happens, I will have to eat a lot less than I do now. On my rest days, I remind myself that I will have to eat this way every day if I ever can't exercise. It's a good mental focus. What led me to overeat in the first place was coming off pregnancy/breastfeeding, where I got to eat a lot, and I continued eating alot despite that I no longer needed to. * BMR=Basal Metabolic Rate, which is how many calories your body burns if you sit around and do nothing all day long. PS: I weighed 140.5 today...another new low! So close to the 130's... Blog entry for: 2005-11-07 08:31:02 Home Page / Diet Info | Blog Directory |
