Body Composition (Percentage fat)I went to a health fair this weekend and had my body fat tested at one of the booths. That's where they take a fat caliper and measure the thickness of your body fat on your arms, hips and thighs, and calculate percent fat.I was very pleasantly surprised to learn that I am 17.2% body fat, which is in the lean category. I don't look in the mirror and see a lean body. I still feel like I have chubby legs. Maybe it's the excess skin problem, or maybe I have a body image problem, or maybe it's just hard for a formerly fat person to start seeing themselves as thin. My current weight is 137. I have a lot of muscle mass because of all my exercising! Getting down to 130 is an unreasonable goal, because that would put me at 11% body fat, making me too lean (unless I lost muscle mass which I don't want to do). I guess the fact that my body has been resisting losing those last 10 pounds is because I don't have to lose 10 more pounds. I still plan on counting how many calories I eat and how many I burn off from exercising, and making sure it balances out so I don't gain fat. It was really enlightening for me to get my body fat tested. Here's a site that calculates body fat (using a fat caliper): http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/drobson98.htm Blog entry for: 2006-03-06 13:43:29 Home Page / Diet Info | Blog Directory |
