Stay Active with Age

Here’s a little blurb I read in HerSports magazine:

Here’s a little blurb I read in HerSports magazine:

That National Runner’s Health Study surveyed 4800 female and 7800 male runners, ages 18-75 for nine years. They found that to offset middle age weight gain women should increase their weekly mileage by 2.4 miles per year, and men by 1.7, starting in their mid-thirties. Researches speculate that women require greater weekly increase because they tend to store fat in their hips and butt area, which is harder to burn than fat around the abs, where guys store it. [NOT FAIR!]

As you age, metabolism slows. To avoid that translating to added pounds, reduce your calorie intake and increase your activity with passing years.

This is from page 28 of the July/August 2006 issue of HerSports Magazine.

I can vouch for two things here: hip/butt fat is extremely hard to burn off, and metabolism slows as you age. At 43, I am a workout-aholic (1-3 hours intense exercise per day) and I only eat about 2000-2500 calories! It’s okay, tho, as I feel better than ever!
